Capacity building programme of National Mission on Libraries in KIIT

Capacity building programme of National Mission on Libraries for Public Library Personnel was inaugurated on 18th December 2017 at KIIT premises. The five day long programme of National Mission of Libraries in Association with KIIT Deemed to be University from 18th to 22nd was inaugurated in the presence of  Prof. Harekrushna Satapathy, VC, KISS Deemed to be University; Prof. Chakradhar Tripathy, Hindi Department of Viswa Bharati University; S. K. Chatterjee, Librarian, Harekrushna Mahatab State Library, Odisha;   Prof. Uma Kanjilal, Prof and Head, Faculty of Library and Information Sciences, IGNOU; Prof. A. K. Sen, Chairman, Central Library Committee, KIIT Deemed to be University and Soumen Sarkar, Deputy Director, Implementation, Raja Ram Mohan Ray Library Foundation (RRRLF).

In his speech Prof. Satapathy said, library is not an ordinary wing of any educational institution. It is heart of any academic institution. The personnel working in the library are the real worshipers of Lord Saraswati. Library personnel have already learnt such kind of knowledge to facilitate readers. But after a development of science and technology librarians should enhance their capacity which is needed time to time. Prof Tripathy said, truth always achieved the victory. From earlier days language has been developed from lines, graphs and images. People preserved their writings in palm leaves or cupper plates. Giving example of Rabindranath Tagore, he said, Tagore had felt the importance of library. Now a revolution has already started to educate common people through Schools and libraries. Urban development is possible when rural will develop. Rabindranath always gave importance on rural development through education, he added. Prof. Sen thanked Raja Ram Mohan Ray library Foundation for their initiative towards capacity building of Library personnel nationwide. Dr. Kanjilal in her speech said, different modern libraries across nation have been set up to develop the reading habit of common people. As many as six culture libraries and thirty five district libraries going to be set up in different places. The Capacity building of librarians are planned in three levels as basic, middle and advanced level. Shri Chatterjee also spoke on the occasion. Dr. Bijaylaxmi Routaray, Chief Librarian of KIIT welcomed all delegates while Mr. Sarkar proposed the votes of thanks. As many as two hundred library professionals have participated in this five day training cum workshop.
